2.2.1 Strategic Planning and Assessment

A. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to set forth requirements for systematic, written strategic planning and assessment.

B. Persons Affected

This policy applies to all institutional units at The University of Texas at Tyler.

C. Policy and Procedures

The policy of The University of Texas at Tyler is to ensure that the development, management, and operation of the University is solidly based on systematic, comprehensive planning and assessment processes that involve the engagements of all institutional units, result in continuous improvement, and demonstrate that the University is effectively accomplishing its mission.

D. Definitions

Institutional units. Includes the divisions, colleges, academic departments or programs, and administrative and academic support departments or offices.

E. Responsibilities

The University Assessment Council, chaired by the Assistant Vice President for Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness, will:

  1. Support the mission of the University by providing guidance, coordination, and support for the on-going assessment of institutional effectiveness. 
  2. Make recommendations to the Assistant Vice President for Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness regarding implementation and continuous improvement of the University's assessment program. 
  3. Monitor strategic plan actions, assessment plans, and the annual assessment activities of all units and programs in order to make recommendations for improvements. 

F. Review

This policy shall be reviewed every five years by the President in consultation with the Vice Presidents.
