4.15.12 Selective Service Registration

A. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to make sure we are in compliance with Section 651.005 of the Texas Government Code.

All males between the ages of 18 and 26.

D. Policy and Procedures

  1. Any male accepting employment with The University of Texas at Tyler must provide proof of registration with the Selective Service System or exemption from registration by virtue of being older than 26 years of age or younger than 18 years of age.
  2. Males are not eligible for employment with The University of Texas at Tyler unless they provide this information on or before their first day of employment.
  3. If the applicant who has accepted the position meets the criteria for registration (male between the ages of 18 and 26), they shall provide Human Resources with a photocopy of their Selective Service Card or exemption when they report to work on their first day of employment. They may also provide proof of registration or exemption during the applications process.
  4. If a male applicant is under 18 or over 26 years of age, they must present proof of their date of birth to Human Resources.
  5. If a male is registered but does not have his Selective Service Card, Human Resources will assist in checking the Selective Service website data base to verify registration or assist in online registration of the applicant in the event they have not registered.

F. Review

This policy shall be reviewed by Human Resources every five years or as legislation changes.
