4.19.4 Performance Evaluation Program

A. Purpose

Performance evaluations are to be used in decisions concerning promotion; to help improve work performance, in merit salary reviews for each fiscal year, and for disciplinary actions where applicable.

It is the policy of the Board of Regents that a written performance evaluation be conducted for all UT Tyler employees.

PROCEDURE

  1. Probationary Employees

    Probationary employees shall have their work performance evaluated after 90 days and prior to the expiration of 180 days of employment. These evaluations shall utilize the standard performance evaluation questionnaire.

  2. Non-probationary Employees

    Non-probationary employees shall have their work performance evaluated based on the following:

    1. Not less than once per year.

    2. Performance evaluations may take place more frequently than once per year at the discretion of the employee’s supervisor or other administrative superior.

  3. Performance Evaluation Program Support

    1. It shall be the responsibility of the Office of Human Resources or another designated administrative office to assure that the appropriate performance evaluation forms are available to management personnel in each department. It is the responsibility of that office to assure that performance evaluation forms are available on a schedule sufficient to achieve the 90-day, 180-day, and annual performance evaluation for each employee.

    2. A copy of the completed performance evaluation shall be retained by the Office of Human Resources for maintenance in an appropriate employee file, and a copy shall be retained by the department.

E. Responsibilities

  1. The processes and forms necessary to accomplish the performance evaluation program shall be set by the chief administrative officer at each component institution.
  2. Institutional policies and procedures regarding the performance evaluation program shall be included in the institutional Handbook of Operating Procedures. Copies of the forms utilized should be available in the Office of Human Resources or on the OHR website.

F. Review

This policy shall be reviewed by Human Resources every five years or as legislation changes.
